Hi, I’m Celeste.

I’m a Pilates and GYROTONIC® instructor with a deep background in dance, rehabilitative fitness, therapeutic massage and physical therapy modalities.

Movement, Music & Myth

I’ve been in my Pilates era since the ‘90s—back when I got my first car and spent my free time driving all over Los Angeles, catching Beck, Weezer and Nirvana in gritty coffeehouses and small music venues, while also wandering the aisles of places like the Psychic Eye and The Bodhi Tree book shops searching for answers in astrology, psychology, mythology, and other spiritual texts. Crystals, candles, Jungian ideas, feminist writers, and stacks of metaphysical books became part of the landscape of my youth, right alongside my penchant for indie music, foreign films, and late-night coffeehouse wanderings around L.A.

I half-jokingly say I grew up in “the land of cults,” and in many ways it’s true. I was exposed early to an endless spectrum of spiritual beliefs, self-help philosophies, mystical practices, and alternative ideologies—which, interestingly enough, made me more skeptical than gullible. I learned to question everything and look at the world of “woo-woo” with a critical eye. But after experiencing a profound personal family trauma as a teenager, my search for meaning deepened. And despite my skepticism, two things always resonated with me to the core: astrology and breath work. Somehow, they simply fit.

Around that same time, I discovered Classical Pilates as a teenage dance major at Santa Monica College, and my world was rocked in an entirely different way. From the very first lesson, something immediately clicked, and my body didn’t just need it—it craved it. What began as a physical practice quickly evolved into a lifelong path rooted in therapeutic exercise, holistic health, somatic healing, and the deep connection between body, mind…and spirit.

Movement has always been in my DNA, actually. I grew up dancing, practicing yoga, and inventing my own floor routines long before I knew what Pilates was. That early love of movement, and an obsession with Pilates, eventually led me to train with an incredibly gifted team at EHS Pilates in San Francisco…an experience I still look back on as one of the happiest times in my life.

A few years later, when I was introduced to the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® at my job in Beverly Hills, I had another one of those unmistakable “Wow!” moments. My body responded instantly, and I knew this movement art would become another lifelong practice. I went on to study extensively and traveled to Germany the following year to complete my certification. Over the past dozen or so years, I’ve added GYROTONIC® Level 2 and Specialized Equipment, Group Fitness Instruction, TRX®, Advanced Massage Therapy, PT Assistance, and a Yoga-based Pelvic Floor specialization to my toolkit.

My approach to movement is shaped by a life immersed in creativity, music, symbolism, healing arts, travel, and nature. I bring that spirit into every session, helping people reconnect with their bodies, discover joy in movement, and feel better inside and out. My teaching is guided by intuition, thoughtfulness, fun...and that ever-present eye for detail.

Meet Aster Blue, the amazing Pilates cat.

Aster Blue arrived as a gift from the cosmos in the summer of 2015, when he wandered into my DTLA studio on Spring Street and quietly appointed himself Assistant Instructor. A highly intelligent cat with impeccable Pilates credentials, he feels most at home perched atop the equipment, carefully supervising sessions and keeping a watchful eye on every detail. Fortunately for my clients, his standards are nearly as high as mine.

(And yes, as you can see he loves to tear up the reformer-protective yoga mats…and he does that like a pro as well.)
